Home and Garden Spas provide more than three hard-sided portable hot tubs under their own name, but also provide three others under the name of Hudson Bay Spas using the promotion media of Amazon.
Hard to tell if it is the same company, but both have the same address in Twin Oaks Drive, Johnson City, TN 37601 and both use alternative retail outlets for their products, so I’d assume they were the same outfit.
For that reason, we’ll combine the two, starting with the lower-priced first, as is our usual method.
The least expensive of the lot at marginally over $2,000, this 5 seater hot tub by Hudson Bay Spas, although it is also posted as Home and Garden Spas as the builder, measures 71 x 64 x 30 inches deep comes with very good recommendations from Amazon customers.
You notice we only mention Amazon as their suppliers as Amazon gives truthful reviews by previous customers who have purchased their products, rather than recommendations from show-rooms and salesmen, that can usually be taken with a pinch of salt, much like other affiliate advertizers on the www.
Why it is cheaper than the one below when it is larger is anyone’s guess, unless it is popularity?
The Hudson Bay Spas 5 Person 14 Jet Spa at 600lbs is very easy to set up and suits a family of two adults with two kids beautifully – any more and you will struggle.
This plug-and-play ‘brand’ of hot tub is manufactured in America and usually takes around four to six weeks from placing the order to delivery time, obviously depending on demand, although customers do say they got no word from Amazon other than the shipping date, while the producers were very helpful and informative. So a “BIG THUMBS UP” to Hudson Bay Spas!
Included with the Hudson Bay Spas 5 Person 14 Jet Spa is a dark brown cover of excellent performance and filters are included, but please note – chemicals are not.
Regarding the filters, these really do need washing out frequently – weekly, depending on usage – as they are so effective they capture dirt very well and must be attended to, to keep bacteria levels down.
It has foam insulation sprayed to the inside, but in colder climes, reviewers say they will add more to improve the performance, plus on the power side of things there is an economy mode to use in downtime to help keep the running costs down.
Also featured in this unit is the maintenance-free synthetic cabinetry where a simple wipe-down with a damp cloth does the job nicely, with a pressure-treated base frame along with ABS bottom to ensure durability for years to come.
Coming in at 550lbs dry weight, nearly 600 lbs when delivered, and at 72 x 72 x 30 inches deep, this great rated hot tub will fit almost anywhere – even in the corner of a room, although the plumbing will need sorting first before it is installed, especially if you want it sitting in a corner.
Regarding installation, it appears this model is touted as plug and play, but you need to remove a panel first to find the plug and cable so that you can play – check out customer reviews, otherwise it is recommended as a sound machine, especially for two people rather than three.
On top of this, the electrical side has a 10ft long GFCI cord included and plugs into a standard 110V outlet but it is recommended it needs a 20amp dedicated feed. One unhappy Amazon reviewer mentions having to bore a hole in the rear to allow the plug out of the hot tub, but he’s the only one, so you can make up your own minds about that one, but it does appear to be standard practice with Hudson Bay Spas.
More than likely, if it is used outside the home, it would easily work as a plug and play, so perhaps someone just wanted to crib about insignificant matters?
The White Shell with seven color options of the Mocha Cabinets are available and the internals of the hot tub is produced with Durable, Slip Resistant Lucite® Acrylic with Multi-Layer Fiberglass Reinforcement, so it is built to last.
It is basically a bargain-priced hot tub with enough power in the jets to give you full relaxation 24/7 without blasting you out of the tub, as normally, most hot tubs have a fierce flow rate that needs turning down for comfortable relaxation, which in turn means they have bigger pumps than really needed.
Next on the agenda, we have the:-
Again, this plug-and-play hot tub by Hudson Bay Spas uses the same proven 2HP single pump and 1KW heating system as the two above, but as this 550lb hot tub is far more accommodating for four adults (and maybe a further couple of kids) at 76 x 76 x 34 inches, it gives more appeal to the larger family without adding considerably to the cost.
It seems this purchaser didn’t think too much of the cover in the video below.
Owing to the larger size, it will take longer to warm up, some say up to 36 hours, but then again, it loses heat less quickly with its better insulation and around 300 gallons mass of water encapsulated by a great lightweight cover.
It will be understood the price is kept lower than other hard sided portable hot tubs owing to having fewer jets and gimmicks than most hot tubs, meaning less internal plumbing and fittings which again means fewer things to go wrong, but it is in big demand despite the manufacturer not marketing their models properly by giving full details to potential customers.
Sadly, that is the way of great manufacturers who produce fantastic products, but lack the ability to sell their wares and depend on outfits like Amazon to do their marketing.
Next, we come to spas and hot tubs from the same factory (I assume, judging by the same lack of marketing shown) but being under a different name, are slightly higher in price, although still relatively cheap compared to many others in the hard sided portable hot tub market.
On first impressions, these are virtually the same hot tubs previously shown with more jets included, but this is not the case as they are completely different layouts.
Home & Garden LPIX3 32 Jet Spa
From the stable of Home and Garden Spas comes this very economical hot tub, being a great runner, just like the three mentioned above and like the last one, the Hudson Bay 6 Person 19 Jet Spa with the same dimensions 76 x 76 x 34 inches and motor, but this time having more jets and being heavier built at 750lbs with a 300gallon water capacity.
The power feed to the pumps is 220V/50Amp so it needs an independent hookup and is designed to be usable throughout the winter season, although still a basic design.
Panels can all be removed for easier access and also to allow further insulation to be added of needed.
Some customers say they pay an extra $25 per month on average to keep the hot tub running for a full year, so it is relatively economical for the benefits you receive. That’s a little over $1 per day all-in if you count water charges, chemical replacement and filters.
5 Person 51 Jet Spa
Stepping up a gear in size and capacity, this hot tub requires a dedicated 220V/50Amp power feed with its 80 x 80 x 34 inches size and I’m guessing it holds around 400 gallons.
There’s also an ozone purifier included in this one.
Some customers are not too happy with this product, but there are far more who are elated with the great hot tub they have received for such a low price.
Poor marketing lets this company down again, big time, despite the fact they are very helpful towards their customers.
It appears these two(?) companies provide other hot tubs, but they only advertise the ones above on Amazon and they are not the best sellers on Amazon, chiefly because of their poor marketing standards, but nevertheless, customers are provided with an inexpensive and lasting product because of this and it may well be worth your time checking them out here.
